Arthritis in Cats

Arthritis occurs when there is damage to the moveable joints of bones and can be caused by many things including trauma, infection or wear and tear.

Arthritis causes inflammation of the joint and the condition is extremely common in cats. Unfortunately it often goes unnoticed as owners think the cat is just slowing down with age.

The most common form is osteoarthritis which is the result of ‘overuse’ of the joints and there are ways to prevent or alleviate the symptoms.

The most common form of treatment is long tern anti-inflammatory drugs. Never give your cat human anti-inflammatory drugs even common ones such as aspirin as they can be highly toxic or even fatal.

Supplements which have natural anti-inflammatory properties can be used alongside veterinary treatment. All FourFriends cat foods contain salmon oil which helps guard against arthritis and rheumatism and helps ease the symptoms.

The addition of Yucca schidigera in all our recipes also helps with these conditions and of course we have Aloe Vera as standard to ensure optimum health & wellbeing.

The high quality chicken and salmon in Fourfriends cat foods contain the essential Omega-3 and -6 needed to assist with arthritis pain relief.

Arthritis can be made worse if your cat is overweight. FourFriends specialised Weight Control food can help as the high content of protein increases the muscle mass of the cat which increases metabolism so the cat begins to lose weight. Fourfriends Weight Control contains very digestible protein and less fat.
