FourFriends Does Not Contain Any Dangerous Ingredients Found in Some Popular Dog Treats

Dangerous Ingredients in Popular Dog Treats

When buying branded dog treats you would expect the quality of ingredients to be of an acceptable level. Unfortunately in many mass-produced well known treats this is simply not the case.

The most commonly used ingredients in dog treats are as follows –

Sodium Tripolyphosphate (E451)

This artificial preservative can also be used as a component of detergents and industrial products. This has been proven to cause vomiting in animals.

Smoke Flavour

Safety concerns were reported with almost three quarters (73%) of smoke flavours in 2011. The report stated that ‘genotoxicity could not be ruled out’. Genotoxicity is a substance known to cause mutations which can result in cancer.

Potassium Sorbate (E202)

This is known to be a damaging skin, eye and respiratory tract irritant in dogs. Studies have shown this can cause irreversible damage to blood cells.

Meat and Animal Derivatives

This could be ANYTHING including lungs, claws and head. As the animal species is not identified, manufacturers can change the recipe depending on what is cheapest to buy at any particular time.

Poultry Flavour

This is an animal digest. ‘Digest’ is defined as ‘produced by the chemical or enzymatic hydrolysis of animal tissue that has not undergone decomposition’. This produces a flavour that does not have to actually contain any real meat.
